This asynchronous interactive distance course is designed to provide a solid foundation in oncology. Some of the topics covered include characteristics of cancerous cells, benign versus malignant tumors, cancer-causing viruses, immune system responses, diagnostic imaging, sample acquisition (aspirates, scrapings, swabs and imprints) plus effective biopsy techniques, paraneoplastic syndromes, treatment options, pain management, nutrition and end-of-life measures.
