Veterinarians and staff of a West Michigan shelter can now perform ultrasound to patients, including small animals, thanks to a recent donation.

Veterinary imaging company, Core Imaging, has gifted the Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) an ultrasound machine to equip the non-profit organization with an in-house imaging service, more particularly, one that can also be used for pediatric probe.

“Having an ultrasound machine, specifically one that has the ability to scan small animals and kittens properly, gives HSWM the ability to diagnose and fix problems as we see them,” says Megan Ellinger, director of Animal Welfare at HSWM. “This saves us time and money in sending an animal out for treatment and allows us to focus on getting them healthy so that they can find their forever home!”

Ellinger says the HSWM team members “are excited” to finally have access to a pediatric probe, allowing them imaging capabilities they have never had before. “This probe works on the tinies of kittens, puppies, guinea pigs, and other small animals,” she adds.
