Giving incoming veterinarians the opportunity to graduate with less financial burden, and a surefire shot at a career opportunity is the driving force behind an annual scholarship grant.
The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) has announced Audalys Pena as this year’s recipient of the VEG Scholarship. Pena, an aspiring emergency veterinarian and current DVM student at the University of Florida (UF) receives funding for her entire fourth year of tuition and is offered a full-time job post at the VEG South Tampa after she graduates and completes VEG’s training program.
“To receive the VEG Scholarship is undoubtedly a life-changing opportunity for me, both personally and professionally,” says Pena. “As a first-generation college student and the child of immigrants, pursuing higher education has been a journey marked by challenges and sacrifices, with financial security being one of the most difficult to overcome.”
“Student debt is often the biggest concern we hear about when we meet new doctors, and the annual VEG Scholarship allows us to give back and support aspiring Emergency Veterinarians,” says David Bessler, VMD, founder and CEO of VEG.
The annual scholarship is typically awarded to fourth-year veterinary students in the U.S. and is amplified with a full-time role as an emergency veterinarian post-graduation.
