More animals and communities in need are set to receive assistance and support, thanks to a recent expansion project.
Veterinarians Without Borders/VétérinairesSans Frontières (VWB/VSF), a Canadian non-profit organization focused on animal health to improve the health of communities, has announced an expansion into the United States, with the establishment of Veterinarians Without Borders USA. Together, the two charities are rebranding as Veterinarians Without Borders North America (VWB North America).
“From providing emergency response support after the Maui fires, to recently offering training services to animal welfare organizations in Vermont and Pennsylvania, we have a strong presence in the United States and look forward to officially capturing this inspiring work under VWB North America,” says Charmaine Brett, executive director, VWB/VSF.
Central to the organization’s work is the One Health approach, where it recognizes the interconnectedness among healthy animals, healthy people, and healthy environments. In line with this, the VWB North America offers training services to animal welfare organizations, specifically geared toward animal shelter staff and volunteers, including the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in West Windsor, Vt., and in Somerset County, Pa., an organization that is receiving training around animal handling and rescue.
Another key pillar for the organization is delivering emergency response, providing immediate, on-the-ground support to ensure that no animal is left behind during unprecedented natural disasters or conflicts. Recently, VWB North America supported communities in Ukraine, delivering more than1 ,286 tons of food, conducting more than 11,000 spays and neuters, and holding more than 3,000 online veterinary consultations.
