Kitten and puppy mix recalled for Salmonella, Listeria

Businesses and pet owners are urged to dispose of specific kitten and puppy mixes for potential contamination of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

Blue Ridge Beef has issued a voluntary recall for all lot numbers and used by dates between N24 1114 to N24 1224 of their 2 lb log of Kitten Grind UPC 8 54298 00101 6; 2 lb log of Kitten Mix UPC 8 54298 00143 6 and their 2 lb log of Puppy Mix UPC 8 54298 00169 6 due to the contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports. Animals consuming the affected products may be susceptible to Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, posing a potential risk to humans who handle contaminated pet items.

Blue Ridge Beef was notified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services that one lot of each of the products were sampled and tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the FDA.

The products were distributed between Nov. 14 and Dec. 20, 2023, and were packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in the states of: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Product images and detail below:
