Cats constantly licking, chewing, and scratching their skin due to feline allergic dermatitis can now benefit from a newly approved medication.
The generic Modulis for Cats has received the green light from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The immunosuppressant drug contains the active ingredient cyclosporine, which eases the itchy skin associated with the condition.
Patients with feline allergic dermatitis often lick, chew, and scratch at their skin due to irritation. As a result, affected cats can develop abrasions, miliary dermatitis, lesions, and self-induced alopecia. Modulis for Cats (which contains cyclosporine in the same concentration and dosage form as the previously approved brand name drug product, Atopica for Cats) suppresses the allergic process that causes these cats to be itchy.
The prescription-only solution, which is supplied in 4.7-, 15-, and 30-ml glass amber bottles, is intended for use in cats at least six months of age, weighing at least 3 lb (1.4 kg). It is sponsored by Kansas-based Provetica, LLC.
