Dog food pulled due to Salmonella

Mid America Pet Food has issued a voluntary recall on one lot of its Victor Super Premium Dog Food due to Salmonella contamination, FDA reports.

Retailers and dog owners across the U.S. are being asked to dispose of one specific lot of dog food due to Salmonella contamination.

Mid America Pet Food has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus, citing Salmonella concerns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports. The affected product, which was produced at the company’s Mount Pleasant, Texas, production facility, consists of 644 cases sold in 5-lb bags. The product has the lot code 1000016385 and is marked with a “Best By” date of 4/30/2024. No other products are included in this recall.

The issue was identified by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture after a sample food product sample was collected during routine surveillance and tested positive for Salmonella.

There have been no reports of illness or adverse reaction.

Owners and retailers are encouraged to destroy products that may have been contaminated to ensure pets, children, and wildlife are not harmed.

Salmonella can cause illness and death in humans and animals, especially those who are very young, very old, or have weak immune systems. Pets do not always display symptoms when infected with the bacterium, but signs can include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, loss of appetite, and/or decreased activity level.
