Aspiring DVMs get Auburn University scholarships in junior vet summer camp

Forty-five aspiring veterinary professionals from across the U.S. have received scholarships to an upcoming junior vet summer camp.

Vet Set Go, in partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals, have announced the winners of this year’s Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest. Winners will take part in the camp from June 18 to 23 at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

“The incredible interest in the competition and passion that jumped off the page of each entry was inspiring,” says Chris Carpenter, DVM, founder and president of Vet Set Go. “Opportunities like the Become a Veterinarian Camp are like gold for aspiring veterinarians …,” Dr. Carpenter adds.

The 2023 online essay competition, open to students entering sixth through eighth grade in fall 2022, attracted submissions from nearly 40 states across the U.S., including Wisconsin, Kentucky, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, California, and Arizona.

Contest winners experience first-hand learning in Auburn University classrooms, clinics, and laboratories. The camp programs include learning about an array of species, ranging from dogs to reptiles and cattle. Additionally, campers will study about public health, agricultural animals, wildlife, anatomy, imaging, and first aid. Participants will have full-time counselor supervision during the week-long camp.
