Preventing the spread of disease and helping ensure a clean and safe environment for animals impacted by Hurricane Idalia is the goal of a sizable donation from Merck Animal Health.
The company has partnered ByoPlanet, a Georgia-based manufacturer of disinfectant and electrostatic technology, to donate up to $1 million worth of disinfection and antimicrobial chemicals to hurricane-affected areas.
The donation includes ByoPlanet electrostatic technology, which utilizes advanced electrostatic spraying to deliver comprehensive coverage of disinfection and durable antimicrobial chemicals to surfaces and air. The technology, Merck says, will be instrumental in helping to prevent the spread of diseases and to ensure a clean, safe environment for sheltered animals.
“Natural disasters, like the one taking place in Florida, cause immense destruction and displace numerous animals from their homes,” says Merck Animal Health’s executive director of livestock technical services, Justin Welsh, DVM.
“We are just beginning to understand the impact of Hurricane Idalia on the local animal population,” adds Rick O’Shea, CEO of ByoPlanet. “We feel a responsibility to support these communities in times of crisis. Through our combined donation of disinfection chemicals and electrostatic technology, we hope to alleviate some of the challenges faced by these animals and help them recover.”
